Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs said that India is closely monitoring the fast-changing situation in Afghanistan. However, MEA has not released any official statement on this development yet.

Amid much chaos and the security situation turning volatile in Afghanistan, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday finally gave up power as the Taliban formed an interim government after talks between the Afghan govt and Taliban negotiators.

According to sources, Ali Ahmad Jalali is likely to be appointed as the head of the new interim government after the Afghanistan government surrendered to Taliban insurgents.

After a month-long offensive against the Afghan security forces, the Taliban fighters finally reached the gates of Kabul on Sunday (August 15).

Earlier, a Taliban delegation led by Mulla Abdul Ghani Baradar had made its way to the Presidential Palace after entering Kabul to prepare for a transfer of power.
