Uttarakhand hotel staff test positive for Covid-19

At least 82 employees of a hotel tested positive for Covid-19, which forced authorities to close the facility for sanitization and the employees were isolated at a government guest house.

Tehri (Uttarakhand):Eighty-two employees of a hotel in Uttarakhand tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. Deputy District Magistrate Yukt Mishra said the hotel will be closed for two days for sanitization and employees will be isolated at a district guest house.

The total number of active cases in the state is 1,666.

The surge in cases come as thousands of devotees took the holy dip at the Har Ki Pauri ghat in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar on the occasion of Mahashivratri - turning it into a 'covid hotspot'.

Despite the situation, the government is set to organise a Kumbh Mela from April 1 to 30 in four major locations of the state.

Earlier, the Uttarakhand government said devotees will have to get their RT-PCR test done 72 hours before participating in the Kumbh.

Dehradun district admin declares 2 more containment zones

In Dehradun, the district administration declared two areas as containment zones on Monday.

The state has recorded its highest single-day spike in coronavirus infections with 366 fresh cases on Sunday. With this, the cumulative cases of the virus shot up to 99,881, and the active infections reached 1,666 in the Himalayan state.

Meanwhile, the administration has imposed a lockdown in the Gumaniwala area of Rishikesh under the Uttarakhand Epidemic Disease COVID-19 Regulation 2020 and the Disaster Management Act 2005.
