Court rejects bail plea of Delhi violence accused for the sixth time

Lawyer Nasir Ali, representing Md Ansar, said that the Delhi High Court had released 13 of the prisoners who have been facing the same charges as his client. However, the court noted that the police had recovered an automatic gun and live bombs from his house, and thus making a different circumstance than those who were granted bail.

New Delhi:A Delhi Court has rejected the bail plea of Muhammad Ansar, who is facing trial in the 2020 Delhi riots case, for the sixth consecutive time on Saturday. While rejecting the bail plea, Vinod Yadav, the Additional Sessions Judge at Karkardooma Court noted that the police had seized an automatic gun and live bombs from his house and therefore he cannot be released.

Nasir Ali, representing Md Ansar, said that the Delhi High Court had released 13 of the prisoners who have been facing the same charges as his client. However, the court noted that the police had recovered an automatic gun and live bombs from his house, and thus making a different circumstance from those who were granted bail.

Further, the court noted that there are CCTV footages that prove the participation of Md Ansar in the violence. Also, the accused was identified by the security guard of the DRP school, the court said.

Earlier on Thursday, Delhi's Karkardooma Court ordered to release of Pinjara Tod activists Natasha Narwal, Devangna Kalita and Jamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha who were granted bail by the Delhi High Court on June 15 in connection with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case of North East of Delhi Violence.

More than 750 cases were registered over the violence in northeast Delhi in which at least 53 people were killed and several others were injured. So far, over 250 charge sheets have been filed in the violence-related cases in which many accused have been charge-sheeted.
