New Delhi: In a fresh development in the Republic Day violence case, the Delhi Police's Crime Branch has filed a charge sheet before the Court stating protestors had been allegedly conspiring since November 2020 to unleash violence. The Crime Branch has stated protestors chose Republic Day with the intention of defaming the Central Government.

A large number of tractors were purchased and protestors had planned to unleash violence at the Red Fort rather than at the border. The intention was to capture Red Fort and sit there for demonstration, it said.

The Crime Branch has elaborated the conspiracy in the charge sheet of over 3000 pages. The role of farmer leaders in the incident is also cited. Sources said many of the accused who were arrested have been granted bail. More than 500 policemen were injured in the violence.

Tracing back the events on Republic Day it said, protestors did not follow the prearranged route and broke barricades to enter Delhi, clashed with police, and vandalised property in several parts of the national capital during the farmers' tractor rally.

They also entered the Red Fort and unfurled their flags from its ramparts.

Farmers have been protesting at different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws.
