Mumbai: The renaming of Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar in the state is currently heating politics. In the ruling Mahavikas Aghadi government, Congress, which is one of the constituent parties, has opposed the renaming of Aurangabad.
Congress state president Balasaheb Thorat has taken the issue of renaming directly to the General Directorate. Many organizations in the state have expressed displeasure over the role of the Congress. There have also been agitations against Thorat by Maratha community organizations. However, Congress is still adamant against renaming the cities.
Speaking on the issue of renaming Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar, Thorat said that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is our adored deity. Let's not play politics of naming using his name, let's all work together for the development of Aurangabad. Also, the Mahavikas Aghadi government in the state runs on at least the same program. The fundamentals of the Indian Constitution are at the core of at least a similar program. Therefore, we reiterate that we strongly oppose the renaming of any city for the sake of maintaining social harmony.
Directorate General of Information and Public Relations role in the change of name
It should be noted that the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations should not rename cities, government work is a legal document. Renaming cities are not part of the Mahavikas Aghadi's program. In such words, Revenue Minister Thorat has also slammed the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations.
Aurangabad is referred to as Sambhajinagar while the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations is announcing the Cabinet decision on the government medical college in Aurangabad on the CMO's Twitter handle. Reacting to this, Thorat has said that the Congress is strongly opposed to the naming of cities.
What's the argument all about?
