New Delhi: Congress party, on Friday, made a scathing attack on the Central Government in view of the recent rape incidents that occurred in the national capital saying that "being a woman in India has now become a crime".
Days after Twitter India blocked the account of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also written to Facebook, today, seeking appropriate action against Gandhi's Instagram handle.
While addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, "First it was Twitter and now it is Instagram who are threatening to block us. They cannot ban all the communication channels of India's principal opposition just because we are trying to be the voice of the voiceless. I want to ask what crime has Rahul Gandhi committed?"
"He (Rahul Gandhi) has been seeking justice for the victim but the government hasn't spoken a word. Unmindful of ban on social media platforms, our fight will just go on. However, I would also like to say that this is not about banning Twitter account, this is about a core issue, i.e. In India, being a woman is now perhaps the biggest crime, and God forbid if you are poor and from Dalit community," she alleged.

She also claimed that Twitter has taken this decision in violation of its prescribed public policy which categorically states that if you have shared personal information, which is already available on a public platform then it is not a violation of their policy, mentioning that Rahul Gandhi shared those pictures of victim's parents on August 4 before which this information was already available on many platforms including media, National Commission of Schedule Caste.
She also stated that Twitter goes on to say that if you share personal information with the intent of harming it will be taken down but if you are trying to help, it will not be taken down.
"We are not in violation of (policies of Twitter) at all but Twitter is doing it under the pressure of government. I am anguished that eight ministers held a press conference to set a political agenda...none of them has the time to talk about crime against women that is happening in the heart of the national capital," the Congress leader said.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress leader Udit Raj said, "A girl was raped and cremated forcibly against the wishes of her parents in Delhi Cantt area but not even a single word has been said by Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah. The importance of the life of a Dalit is even less than that of an animal."
Congress leader Udit Raj took a jibe at Center over women crime in National Capital He also alleged that Rahul Gandhi is attacked because he stood for the rights of a Dalit girl.
