New Delhi: Congress party on Saturday raised questions over the investigation into the alleged plot to disrupt their proposed tractor rally and to incite violence in farmer agitation. Congress sought that there should be an immediate dismissal of the Haryana Government to conduct a fair probe into this matter.
On Friday night, the farmer leaders held a press conference at Singhu border where they presented a masked man who claimed that he is a part of a 10-member team tasked to kill four farmers and incite violence during the planned tractor rally on January 26.
However, hours after Sonepat police arrested him, the masked man took a U-turn saying that he was reading a script prepared by the farmers. A video of the man being questioned by the police has gone viral.
Addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said, "With the alleged perpetrator caught and having admitted to the plan, this is a new low in Indian democracy. Who doesn't want the farmers' rally to be successful? Who wants to shut down the voice of farmers? What is more shocking is that Haryana Police during its investigations has circulated a video of perpetrator where he denied any such involvement?"
"When the person made serious allegations against Haryana Police, no one can trust them in this regard. The approach of Haryana Government, right from the start has been to dig up roads and to prevent farmers from even reaching the Delhi Border, use water cannons, tear gas and lathi charge against the farmers," he further added.
