New Delhi: Congress called it's working committee meeting, on Friday, to condole the deaths of the two stalwarts of the party, Ahmed Patel and Tarun Gogoi. However, through this meeting, the grand old party also gave a strong message of discipline to its dissenters.

In the resolution passed by Congress Working Committee, the party lauded the contribution of both of its leaders. For Ahmed Patel, the resolution stated, "Ahmedbhai had no personal ambition. The interest of Congress was his only interest and advancement of Congress' agenda was his only agenda. He was deeply religious but secular at the core."

As the Congress party is witnessing various dissenting voices within itself, even from the senior leaders like Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad and P Chidambaram. Ahmed Patel was considered as the leader who used to resolve such matters to uphold the party's interest. After his demise, the CWC made it clear that the party should move forward with discipline.

"At every step of its journey in guiding the Congress Party, the CWC will go forward with the sense of duty and discipline. That is the only way that Shri Patel, or Ahmedbhai, would have wanted us to conduct our affairs," asserted the resolution.

According to the sources, the resolution was being read out by the senior Congress leader Mukul Wasnik, who was very close to Ahmed Patel and even was a part of the G-23 leaders who wrote a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, seeking an organizational overhaul.

The CWC members also lauded the contribution of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who made a critical role for marking a presence of Congress party in Northeast India.

"He was the quintessential consensus-seeker. Under his leadership, Assam became a model of communal harmony and development," the resolution stated.

It further added, "In the recent months, Shri Gogoi had been campaigning extensively and vigorously to secure a mandate once again for the Congress party in the forthcoming Assembly Elections. The CWC is confident that Congressmen and women of Assam will continue to take encouragement and inspiration from the life and work of Shri Gogoi and fulfil his desire."
