Congress' Digvijaya Singh slams BJP's 'Divide and Rule' policy

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having announced August 14 as ' Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'. Singh also accused Veer Savarkar of having published the first article pertaining to partition and slammed the BJP of resorting to 'Divide and Rule' policy.

Bhind (Madhya Pradesh): Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having announced August 14 as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' and allegedly accused Veer Savarkar of having published the first article pertaining to partition and slammed the BJP of resorting to 'Divide and Rule' policy. The Congress leader made the remarks during his visit to the villages in Gwalior-Chambal division of Madhya Pradesh, to assess the destruction caused by the recent floods. He also blamed CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan led government's administrative failure for the current circumstances.

Digvijaya Singh further went on to say that Damodar Veer Savarkar and Jinnah, were the architects of the politics of Partition. The Congress General Secretary also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having mentioned the names of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from the ramparts of the Red Fort during his speech on Independence Day. "I did not listen to the speech of the Prime Minister, because my ears are full having listened to Mann Ki Baat. Modi only tells lies, he does not know how to speak the truth," Singh added.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the decision to observe August 14 as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' has been made in memory of the struggles and sacrifices of the country's people. "Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. May the day keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment," the Prime Minister had tweeted.
