Congress party demands Amit Shah's resignation

The Congress party has blamed Home Minister Amit Shah for failing to contain violence during the farmers' tractor rally and demanded his resignation.

New Delhi:Congress party, on Wednesday, trained guns at the Central Government by blaming Home Minister Amit Shah for failing to contain violence during the farmers' tractor rally at the Red Fort and even sought his immediate resignation over the matter.

While condemning the violence, Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said during a press conference that Amit Shah is the "weakest" Home Minister in the history of India, under whose tenure the national capital witnessed violence twice within a year.

"It was an intelligence failure and Amit Shah should be dismissed from his post immediately. This is the second incident of violence occurred in Delhi within a year. If Prime Minister will not sack him immediately, it will expose his collusion in yesterday's violence," Surjewala claimed.

Congress party also raised objections over the FIR filed against farm leaders. He said, "Home Minister has completely failed to stop the miscreants from entering the Red Fort. Rather than taking any action against the miscreants, FIRs have been filed against the farm leaders."

The opposition party questioned why no action has been taken against the actor Deep Sidhu, who has been accused of hoisting a religious flag at Red Fort. Surjewala alleged that the Delhi Police had become a "mute spectator" during yesterday's violence.

He further added, "The only beneficiary of yesterday's mayhem is the Central Government who wanted to disrupt the peaceful protest of farmers. A sinister plot was executed as a set of miscreants with premeditated motive entered the Red Fort to create mindless violence to malign the farmers."

A day after the violence occurred in the national capital, farmer leader Sardar VM Singh of Rashtriya Kisan Majdoor Ekta Sangathan withdrew protest from Ghazipur site. His name was also mentioned in the FIR.
