New Delhi: Amid the border tensions between Assam and Mizoram after the recent firing incident, the Congress party accused the BJP-led Central Government of "pushing" the Northeast into chaos.
Addressing media, Congress General Secretary and Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, "Uncertainty, conflict, violent clashes and unchecked lawlessness have marred large part of India's northeast. The situation is beyond alarming. Multiple states of Northeast are being pushed into an unprecedented cycle of lawlessness with complete breakdown of law and order and constitutional machinery."
He further alleged, "Shockingly and sadly, Modi Government remains oblivious to the goings on in North East. This completely indifferent, criminally aloof 'hands-off approach' of the BJP government also emanates from its illegal and often divisive usurpation of power in many North-Eastern states and a blind lust to latch onto illegitimately formed governments, irrespective of consequences for the country."
Attacking the central government, he said, "The abdication of constitutional duties and failures to intervene to restore or even a semblance of order and rule of law goes against National interest and territorial integrity of the country."
