Srinagar (Jammu-Kashmir):Drawing a comparison between the Taliban and the Government of India, former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday warned the government and asked the latter to restore the "snatched identity of Jammu and Kashmir".

Addressing a public meeting in South Kashmir's Kulgam district, Mufti said that there is still time for the central government to dig into its conscience and immediately restore the snatched identity of Jammu and Kashmir before it is too late.

"The Central Government unconstitutionally and immorally repealed Section 370 and started a series of atrocities against the people here as well as against political activists and students which is still going on," Mufti added.

Speaking over the resumption of talks with the government over article 370, Mufti said even in Afghanistan, the superpower country ultimately had to resort to negotiations. The Government of India should also know that the solution to the Kashmir issue lies only in dialogue.

Talking with the reporters after the public meeting, Mufti said that the central government is adopting bullying tactics since political activists and students of Kashmir are still imprisoned in different jails.

"The BJP has taken hostage all the institutions and agencies of the country through which political rivals are being harassed."

However, when asked if the situation in Afghanistan will have any effect on the politics of Jammu and Kashmir?" Mehbooba Mufti remained silent.

Referring to the Roshni Act, Mufti said that the BJP has blocked the Roshni Act because it knows that its political leaders themselves are involved in the scam." Condemning the recent attacks on political activists in South Kashmir, Mufti said: "Such acts are reprehensible, regardless of the political party affiliation."
