Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, the police said the accused used to create fake sleazy accounts on social media in the name of women, befriend men, initiate conversations with sexual overtones and get them to pose naked for video calls. They used to record the video calls and later extort money threatening to leak those videos on failure of making the payment.

Based on the complaint registered on July 22 at the cybercrime police station, the police carried out investigations and arrested three members of the gang, besides recovering at least 5,000 sim cards. Police said these cards were obtained by furnishing duplicate records.
