Hyderabad:A record number of the vaccines (2,50,10,390 jabs to be precise) were administered Friday in BJP-ruled states, with Karnataka, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat accounting for more than 20 lakh doses each coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday yesterday, senior Congress leader and former Union finance minister P. Chidambaram took the occasion to dig at the PM in his tweet saying: "I wish the PM celebrated his birthday every day."

Chidambaram went on to question the BJP ruled states why the same vigour and acceleration in administering the vaccines are not seen in other days.

BJP ruled states — UP, MP, Guj & Kar — “perform” on the PM’s birthday and vaccinate many times the daily average. On other days, they are “non-performing” states. I wish the PM celebrated his birthday every day.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 71 yesterday, the country celebrated by vaccinating a record over 2.5 crore people against the Covid-19 virus while the BJP began a 20-day event to serve the poor all over the country.

The total number of daily Covid-19 vaccinations in India crossed a whopping two crore mark in a single day. Earlier in the day, India broke its own record of 1.33 crore daily vaccination record.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya celebrated the administration of over two crore vaccines in a single day across the country with health workers at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

"Thanks to all health workers. Well done India!," Madaviya said.

Meanwhile, the BJP started an event that will last from September 17, Modi's birthday, till October 7, the day when he first became Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001. The event is being organised in BJP offices in the different states and cities across the country.

As part of this, blood donation camps will be held and food and medicines will be distributed among the poor. Senior party leaders and union ministers have been sent to their respective constituencies to oversee the arrangements for this event.
