CBI court says 'No' to Delhi Health Minister's bail plea in money laundering case

New Delhi:A special CBI court on Saturday dismissed the bail application of Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain in an alleged money laundering case. Earlier on Friday, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at multiple locations in the national capital region in connection with Satyendra Jain. Special Judge Geetanjali Goel has given this verdict.

On June 14, during the hearing, advocate N Hariharan, appearing for Satyendra Jain, had said that whatever evidence is against Satyendra Jain is documented and cannot be tampered with. Advocate N Hariharan had said that Satyendar Jain is cooperating in the investigation. He has appeared on the ED's call seven times, so he should be granted bail.

Assistant Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju told the court that the ED was investigating the transaction of money from Lala Sher Singh Trust. "Two or three people have made three-four accommodation entries in Kolkata...accommodation entries worth Rs 17 crore have been detected. Therefore, if bail is granted, there is a possibility of tampering with the evidence," the ASG said.

Senior advocate N Hariharan on behalf of Satyendar Jain had submitted that his client is in judicial custody after the interrogation of 13 days. "Any case of money laundering is not made out against him as the legal requirements are not fulfilled," he said. He had also submitted that there was no possibility of Jain running away. "He went out of India during the investigation and came back. There is no possibility of tampering with the evidence. And lastly, there is no complaint of threat to witnesses. Agency has registered the statement of witnesses," Jain said. On June 13, the court sent Satyendra Jain to judicial custody for 14 days. Satyendra Jain was arrested on 30 May.
