Cases of intestinal gangrene on the rise due to White Fungus

Not just the lungs, the deadly coronavirus seems to be damaging the intestines and food pipeline of patients as well. People who had previously recovered from a bout of Covid-19, are now suffering from intestinal gangrene due to the presence of 'White Fungus' (Candida).

Hyderabad: Not just the lungs, the deadly coronavirus seems to be damaging the intestines and food pipeline of patients as well. people who had previously recovered from a bout of Covid-19, are now suffering from intestinal gangrene due to the presence of 'White Fungus' (Candida).

People who have recovered from Covid need to protect themselves from various diseases, including Black Fungus, White Fungus, etc. Covid-19 damages not only the lungs but also the stomach. In most cases, White Fungus infection of food pipeline, small intestines and colon are causing perforation, leaks, and gangrene. In the case of gangrene, doctors have no other options other than emergency surgery of the infected parts.

The first such case was reported in Bangalore last year. The patient's infected small intestine was removed at St. John's Hospital. Such cases have been reported since the second wave of Covid19. This problem can found in about 10 to 15 per cent of Covid-19 infected persons. More than 25 cases have already been reported in Mumbai.

In a rare case, 'White Fungus' (Candida) has caused perforations in the food pipeline, small bowl and large bowl of a post-Covid-19 patient in Delhi. A 49-year-old woman, from the National Capital Region (NCR), has been detected with the infection at Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after she was admitted with complaints of severe abdominal pain, vomiting and constipation. She had to undergo two surgeries to repair the perforation and gangrenous portions were removed.

What is White Fungus induced gangrene?

  • The ACE2 receptor is responsible for the covid virus entering the cell.
  • These ACE2 receptors are also present in the intestinal walls.
  • The virus that passes through the nose is likely to reach the intestine.
  • Viruses go to the intestines and block the blood vessels.
  • This begins to become a gangrene infection in the intestines.
  • The gangrene infection causes excessive abdominal pain.
  • Studies have shown that about 10 to 15 per cent of Covid recovered people get this type of infection.
  • Doctors can detect this problem through a CT scan.
  • So it is better to consult a doctor If you have any symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting, digestive issues, fatigue, etc.
