Calcutta High Court has moved the Supreme Court against the order passed by its own judge Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharya.

New Delhi: Calcutta High Court has moved the Supreme Court against the order passed by its own judge Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharya. Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal was opposed by Bhattacharya for delisting a case from him and assigning it to the other bench.

"The power of assignment springing from the Master of the Roster concept confines Chief Justice's administrative power to assign specific benches for taking up specific types of matters, which cannot be exercised at the whims of the Registrar General or even the Acting Chief Justice," Justice Bhattarchaya had said in the order.

During the hearing of the case, which was delisted from his court later, Justice Bhattacharya had expressed his annoyance over glitches in video conferencing and had said that he would not conduct a hearing till the issue is resolved. He had asked why contempt should not be issued against the HC administration for it. The case was later delisted and Justice Bhattacharya had taken offence on it and passed an order of listing it before him.
