BS Yediyurappa declines Cabinet rank status granted by CM Bommai

Former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa on Sunday urged CM Basavaraj Bommai to withdraw the orders granting him a Cabinet Minister rank. Yediyurappa had resigned on July 26, coinciding with his government having completed two years in office.

Bengaluru (Karnataka): Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to withdraw the orders granting him a Cabinet Minister rank. "I request you to provide me only those facilities which are given to an immediate former chief minister and withdraw the order giving me a cabinet rank," Yediyurappa had mentioned in his letter to Bommai, which was made available to the media. An official notification from the protocol wing of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) was issued in this regard, adding that the orders would be applicable until Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is in office.

CM Bommai on Saturday had ordered giving facilities similar to a Cabinet Minister rank to Yediyurappa, who had resigned on July 26, coinciding with his government having completed two years in office. A day after his resignation, Yediyurappa had proposed Bommai's name as the leader of BJP's legislature party meet which was accepted by all and on July 28 Bommai had sworn in as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Yediyurappa does not hold any official position other than being an MLA from the Shikaripura assembly constituency. According to official sources, other than the salary, the cabinet rank minister is entitled to certain allowances and facilities for vehicles, official accommodation, among others.
