Blast at Patna civil court, police officer injured

Patna: A crude bomb exploded inside the Civil Court in Patna on Friday. A police officer was injured in the blast. According to police, the bomb was brought to the court as part of the investigation.

Speaking to media persons, Sabiul Haq, the SHO of the Pirbahore police station said that the concerned sub-inspector has suffered injuries to his arm but is currently out of danger. "The injured SI, Umakant Rai, is posted at Kadam Kuan police station. Some crude bombs were seized in his area recently and he had brought these to the court as part of the normal investigation procedure," Haq said.

According to police, Rai was carrying the bombs in a box which he placed on the table of the assistant prosecution officer when one of the bombs went off. The incident created panic among those who were present in the crowded courtroom.

Bystandards said that initially, they thought that it was a tyre burst. However, soon they saw that Rai was writhing in pain. The SHO said that investigation has started to find out whether the bombs were defused properly before being brought to court. (with Agency inputs)
