New Delhi: With more than 1.31 lakh new Coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, India on Friday reported the highest single-day spike ever. Meanwhile, questions have been raised against parties for addressing crowded rallies in poll-bound states.
Recently, an editorial in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ said central government leaders were addressing crowded rallies in poll-bound states while opening suburban trains for the general public in Mumbai was being held responsible for the rise in COVID-19 cases in the metropolis.
Other opponent parties have also accused the BJP government of decreasing the rate of COVID-19 testing in those states.
BJP's National Spokesperson Sudesh Verma slammed the opponents saying they were questioning without having adequate information.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Verma said, "It is meaningless to say that the testing rates are going down in poll-bound states, while the question should be why there are so many cases in Maharashtra where elections are not being held."
"Why are there so many cases in Chhattisgarh? Questions should be more in this regard. The norms of COVID-19 are being followed in the states where elections are held. Elections were also held in Bihar, yet COVID-19 was under control there," he said. "We always ask citizens to be cautious and maintain social distancing while addressing massive crowds in poll-bound states," he added.
