Dungarpur: Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) suffered a major setback in Rajasthan local body elections as BJP and Congress have managed to defeat it. BTP contested the Zila Parishad elections for the first time and secured 13 seats.

Sources have revealed that BJP and Congress were in tacit understanding to sideline BTP and both the parties managed to win eight and six seats in the Zila Parishad elections. It is probably for the first time that BJP and Congress were in cahoots to win the seat of Zila Parishad Pramukh.

BJP candidate Surya Ahari has been elected as the District President with 14 votes. Ahari took oath in the presence of election officials Suresh Kumar Ola and KrishnaPal Singh Chauhan and was sworn in as the District President. BTP candidate Parvati won 13 seats.

Surya Ahari filed her nomination as an independent candidate and won unopposed as there was no face from the Congress.

After being elected as the District President, BJP candidate Ahari said, "The schemes of the Central government have reached the common people and they have been benefitted. I thank all the senior leaders of BJP who gave me this opportunity. I will work for the development of the people at the ground level and will ensure that there is development in Rajasthan."

However, the performance of Congress has been unimpressive in the politically volatile state of Rajasthan as BJP registered victory on the majority of the seats in the recently-concluded panchayat and Zila Parishad elections. The Congress move comes in the wake of the loss in Bihar, where the complacency on the part of the leaders was questioned.

In Rajasthan, the party saw an internal crisis after Sachin Pilot raised a banner of revolt, though he came back after a truce was effected. Trouble, however, in the state seems to be far from over.
