BJP accuses Opposition of playing 'petty politics' over Covid-19

BJP spokesperson Sudesh Verma has accused the Opposition of playing "petty politics" and weakening the country's fight against the pandemic. He also slammed the Opposition for only resorted to the "blame-game politics" even at the time of crisis.

New Delhi:Slamming the Congress for criticising the preparedness of central government to fight the second wave of Covid-19, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sudesh Verma said the Opposition party is weakening the country's fight against the pandemic by doing "petty politics."

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Verma said the Narendra Modi-led central government is putting its best foot forward to fight the battle against this deadly virus.

He quashed the Opposition's claim that the elections' rallies and Kumbh Mela were one of the main reasons behind the surge in cases, saying the second wave had started due to farmers' agitation in Punjab in the month of January itself.

"In the beginning, Covid cases were rising in non-BJP-ruled states likes Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Punjab. I want to ask why these respective state governments did not do anything to check the spread of the virus? The Opposition has only resorted to blame-game politics even at the time of crisis," he claimed.

On the export of vaccines to other countries, Verma said that only some doses have been sent under commercial liability whereas some have been sent to peacekeeping forces.

He further added that with the kind of population India has, it will definitely take some time to inoculate the entire nation.

India recorded 3.43 lakh new cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday, and 4,000 deaths. The country’s caseload of 2,40,46,809 now includes 37,04,893 active cases, 2,00,79,599 recoveries and 2,62,317 deaths.
