Youth Cong organises silent protest against Centre's 'suppression of voices'

Indian Youth Congress took out a protest march against the BJP government in New Delhi by wearing masks and carrying a 500-meter long national flag as a symbol of dissent. Congress made it clear that the party to continue its protest until the Centre will not take back the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress on Monday organised a silent protest march, where hundreds of protesters were wearing masks and carrying a 500-meter long national flag, as a mark of dissent over the "suppression of voices" by the Central government.

"Modi government is trying to suppress the voice of masses in the most unconstitutional ways. Police forces and other governmental institutions are being used against those who try to raise their voices against the government's decisions," said Youth Congress president Srinivas BV.

The flag march was started from the Youth Congress office at Raisina Road and lead to India Gate. IYC members were wearing masks, during the protest, in which a sticker of Bhartiya Janata Party's election symbol was covering the mouth.

"This is a symbolic protest, making a string satirical remark against the dictatorship of Modi government which is shutting down the voices who are being raised to safeguard the Constitution of India," said one of the protesters.

Accusing the government of "dividing" the country on the basis of religion, Srinivas said, "This country has been formed by the blood and sweat of people from every religion. Why this government is trying to divide the country on the basis of religion? We will continue to protest until this government take this law back."
