New Delhi:Against the backdrop of a protest lodged by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday appealed IMA to call off their strike and assured them of providing safety.
Protesting violence against doctors and health workers amid lockdown, the IMA has asked doctors and hospitals across India to light candles on Wednesday. They also warned of observing 'Black Day' on Thursday if no action will be taken by the government.

Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had a talk with IMA doctors over video conferencing and assured them to provide security.
Shah has appealed them not to do even symbolic protest as proposed by them.
Health Secretary Preeti Sudan, Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and a few other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
Several incidents of violence have been reported from across India against doctors and health care workers fighting COVID-19.
"Safety and indignity of our doctors at their workplace are non-negotiable. It is our collective responsibility to ensure a conducive atmosphere for them at all times. I have assured doctors that Modi government is committed to their causes and appealed to reconsider their proposed protest," Amit Shah later tweeted.
Meanwhile, All India Government Nurse Federation has written to Home Minister Amit Shah saying health workers are not being allowed to come to Delhi from Ghaziabad, Noida. In their letter, the federation has urged the government to allow nurses and health workers to travel with their identity cards.
