1298 fresh COVID-19 cases in Kerala, death toll climbs to 97

In the highest single-day surge, Kerala reported 1,298 fresh COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday, as the infection tally breached the 30,000 marks and the death toll climbed to 97.

Of the positive cases, 1,017 were infected through contact, while the source of infection of 76 people is not yet known, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

Andhra reports 10,328 cases, 72 deaths in last 24 hours

10,328 new COVID cases, 72 deaths and 8516 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours in Andhra Pradesh.

Total cases rise to 1,96,789 including 1,12,870 recoveries and 1,753 deaths and the number of active cases stands at 82,166.

20 new COVID-19 cases detected in Himachal Pradesh; tally now 2,937

Twenty people tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, taking the tally of cases in the state to 2,937, officials said.

The death toll due to the disease stands at 13, they added.

Of the fresh cases, six were reported from Sirmaur, four each from Kangra, Hamirpur and Kullu and one each from Chamba and Shimla, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.

UP reports 4,658 new cases

A total of 4,658 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,08,614, said Uttar Pradesh Health Department on Thursday.

According to a health department, as many as 63 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,918.

There are 43,654 active COVID-19 cases in the state.

Indians anywhere can access COVID-19 lab in three hours: Harsh Vardhan 

India has ramped up its COVID-19 testing facility from one lab in January this year to 1,370 labs today and citizens anywhere can access a lab within three hours of travel time, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has said. 

Addressing a virtual meeting of regional directors of World Health Organisation (WHO) South-East Asia on Thursday, the minister said that India's proactive and graded multi-level institutional response to COVID-19 made it possible to have very low cases and deaths per million.

India's COVID-19 recovery rate climbs to 67.62 pc, CFR at 2.07 pc

The recovery rate has reached a record high of 67.62 per cent amongst COVID-19 patients and the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) stands at 2.07 per cent, said Union Health Ministry on Thursday.

The total recoveries of COVID-19 patients have jumped to 13,28,336 with 46,121 COVID-19 patients being discharged in the last 24 hours. With such a consistent increase in recoveries, the gap between recovered patients and active COVID-19 cases has reached 7,32,835. 

The recovery rate has continued its upward journey to reach another record high of 67.62 per cent amongst COVID-19 patients, Ministry said in a statement.

The tally in the state climbed to over 1.08 lakh.

1076 new cases, 890 recoveries reported in Delhi: Satyendar Jain

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said that the 1,076 new cases and 890 recoveries were reported in the National Capital.

He further said that the total number of coronavirus cases in the state stands at 1,40,232, including 10,072 active cases. He added that 2,995 patients are admitted to hospitals.

With 2,092 new COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths reported in Telangana, the total number of coronavirus cases has surged to 73,050 on Thursday.

The total number of deaths rose to 589 in the state.

Jharkhand reports 1,060 new COVID-19 cases

With 1,060 new COVID-19 cases reported in Jharkhand on Thursday, the total number of coronavirus cases reached in the state 15,130.

The state government informed that out of 5,372 samples tested on August 5, 1,060 samples resulted positive for coronavirus while 4,312 tested negative.

The number of active cases stands at 9,074 and 5,914 recovery and the total number of fatalities is 142 in the state.

Veteran CPI(M) leader Shyamal Chakraborty dies of COVID-19

Senior CPI(M) leader Shyamal Chakraborty died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Kolkata on Thursday.

Chakraborty, the three-time transport minister of West Bengal from 1982 to 1996, was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19 on July 30.

Belthangady MLA tests positive for coronavirus

Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja has tested positive for COVID-19. The legislator said he got himself tested Wednesday as he was having a mild fever.

Poonja said he was not having any other symptoms and is taking treatment at home and requested all who had accompanied him in the last few days to go under quarantine.

With over 2K new cases, Telangana Covid tally crosses 73K

Telangana continues to report over 2,000 coronavirus cases on a daily basis. On Thursday, the state reported 2,092 cases in comparison to the 2,012 cases reported on Wednesday. State health officials said that with the latest updates, the overall tally has jumped to 73,050 while the death toll climbed to 589 with 13 deaths reported in the 24 hours ending 8 p.m., on Wednesday.

As many as 21,346 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours, ending 8 p.m. Wednesday. With this the cumulative number of tests has touched 5,43,489.

As per the health department's media bulletin, results of 1,550 samples are awaited.

As of date, 39 government and private laboratories are conducting RT-PCR/CBNAAT/TRUENAT types of tests while 320 government-run centres are conducting rapid antigen tests. However, no break-up of the types of tests was made available by the health department.

Odisha reports highest single-day spike of 1,699 cases

Odisha's Covid-19 tally breached 40,000-mark with detection of 1,699 new positive cases, highest single-day spike, in the last 24 hours, informed the health department on Thursday.

Total positive cases in Odisha rose to 40,717, it said.

Covid-19 claimed 10 more lives in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the state to 235.

The fresh deaths were reported from Ganjam (3), Sundargarh (2) and one each from Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur districts.

Of the new positive cases, 1,073 were reported from quarantines and 626 are local contact cases.

Corona hotspot Ganjam district reported the highest positive cases of 268, followed by Khordha (220), Sundargarh (178), Cuttack (105) and Sambalpur (101).

A total of 25,738 patients have recovered while the state has 14,700 active positive cases.

137 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths reported in Maharashtra Police 

A total of 137 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths were reported in the Maharashtra Police force in the last 24 hours, taking the total count to 10,163.

With two more fatalities, the total deaths in the state police force reached 109.

Out of the total number of police personnel infected with coronavirus, 8,189 have recovered and 1,865 cases are active, informed the Maharashtra Police on Thursday.

Maharashtra with 1,46,268 active cases and 3,05,521 cured and discharged patients continues to be the worst affected. The state has also reported 16,476 deaths due to the infection, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

29 security personnel among 33 new COVID-19 patients in Mizoram

Thirty-three people, including 29 security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the state's tally to 537, a Health Department official said on Thursday.

Of the fresh cases, 28 were reported from Aizawl district, two from Champhai and one each from Lunglei, Kolasib and Saitual, he said.

"Twenty-nine security personnel are among the fresh patients. A nurse, who has been taking care of coronavirus patients at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), has also tested positive for the disease," the official said.

56,282 new cases push India's COVID-19 count to 19,64,536

New Delhi:India saw a single-day increase of 56,282 cases taking the country's COVID-19 tally to 19,64,536 on Thursday, while the recoveries have surged to 13,28,336 and comprise 67.62 per cent of the total caseload, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 40,699 with904 new fatalities being reported in 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

There are 5,95,501 active COVID-19 cases in the country presently which contribute 30.31 per cent of the total cases.

The fatality rate has further dropped to 2.07 per cent, the data stated.

This is the eighth consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 50,000.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 2,21,49,351 samples have been tested up to August 5 with 6,64,949 samples being tested on Wednesday.
