New Delhi: The Supreme Court bench led by the Chief Justice of India, SA Bobde, pulled up the centre today observing that it doesn't understand why the government is blind towards instigative news and does nothing about it.
The bench also comprising of Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian were hearing a petition by Jamiat-ulama-i-Hind against the communalisation of Tablighi Jamaat incident. It observed that there are programs which instigate and impact a community. Fair and truthful reporting is not a problem but doing it to agitate others is a problem, observed the CJI. "It is as important as providing lathis to the policemen," said CJI.
During the hearing, the CJI also mentioned about how internet was shut due to Farmers protest on 26th January, Republic Day. "Yesterday you shut down the internet and mobile because of the farmers visit to Delhi. I am using the non-controversial term. You have shut down internet mobile. These are problems that can arise anywhere. I don't know what happened in the TV yesterday," said CJI.
