We should unite to maintain law and order in Delhi: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday held a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and other senior officials and discussed the prevailing situation in the national capital. Also, it was decided to work together to maintain peace and harmony in Delhi.

New Delhi: A crucial all-party meeting convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday has unanimously decided to work together to maintain peace and harmony in Delhi.

The meeting was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, Congress leader Subhas Chopra, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal and other senior officials of Home Ministry and central intelligence agencies.

"It was decided that we should all work together above party lines to maintain peace and calm in the national capital. Delhi police has taken control over the situation," said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after the meeting with Amit Shah.

It was informed in the meeting that a team of the special police force will also be deployed in the violence-hit areas to maintain law and order.

Kejriwal said that the Delhi police is taking all precautions to main law and order. He, however, skipped a question about whether the Army should be called in to control the situation.

Sources said that MHA has already lodged FIR against a few politicians for allegedly making provocative statements.

Home Minister Amit Shah has said that his ministry is keeping a watch on the leaders who make provocative statements.

It was informed in the meeting that at least 30 police personnel were injured in Monday's violence that took place between pro and anti CAA groups at North East Delhi.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said that all the parties have agreed to maintain peace and harmony in Delhi. The violence at North East Delhi took place when American President Donald Trump is on a two-day-long visit to India. (PTI)
