WATCH: Indian Army rescues children amidst shelling in Poonch

Indian Army on Saturday ferried students in bullet-proof vehicles amidst shelling from Pakistan authorities. The firing and mortar shelling from across the border started in Balakote and Mankote areas around 10 am, drawing strong retaliation from the Indian Army.

Poonch: Indian Army rescues children from Government school in Sandote village at Balakote sector of Mendhar Tehsil amidst cross-border shelling by Pakistan authorities.

According to reports, Indian Army also rescued children from two other schools in Balakote and Behrote village. Besides, the students were ferried in bullet-proof vehicles by the Army.

Earlier, Pakistani troops resorted to mortar shelling and small arms firing on forward posts and villages along the Line of Control killing one army personnel on September 1.

The firing and mortar shelling from across the border started in Balakote and Mankote areas around 10 am, drawing strong retaliation from the Indian Army, the officials said.

They said the heavy exchange of fire between the two sides was going on when last reports were received.

Deputy Commissioner of Poonch Rahul Yadav said there was no report of any casualty in the Pakistani firing and the border residents have been advised to take necessary precautionary measures for their safety.

Seven people, including five soldiers and a 10-day-old baby, were killed and several others injured in frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in the two districts since July.
