Jodhpur:Three years ago, many prominent cities around the globe had started the concept of “wall of kindness” through which people donate unwanted clothing, footwear, and even household items, which are picked up by impoverished people. In such a move that is sure to put a smile on the faces of the needy, Jodhpur Municipal Corporation had also established the "Bhalai ki Bheet' (Wall of Kindness), which has now been converted into a showroom.
The step taken by the Municipality is being appreciated by the public and the city residents are also coming forward to contribute.
The showroom not only has old clothes donated by people but the helpers in the showroom have segregated the clothes according to size and its type which help needy people to find clothes according to their need. It also has trial rooms so that the people can check the fitting of clothes before taking them.
The idea was first conceptualised in the north-eastern Iranian city of Mashhad, where someone installed a few hooks and hangers-on a wall, next to the words: “If you don’t need it, leave it. If you need it, take it.”
