Madkot: At least three people were killed and eleven others went missing after a cloud burst in Uttarakhand's Madkot on Monday. The incident happened in Tanga village located in Munsiari Tehsil of Pithoragarh district and so far two bodies have been recovered. 

Earlier, V K Jogdande, District Magistrate, Pithoragarh said," 3 people in the Madkot village lost their lives while 8 people from a neighbouring village are missing following a cloud burst." 

"A rescue team is present at the spot," said Jogdande.

Cloud burst and heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Pithoragarh's Munsyari region, leaving three people dead and eleven missing.  

Locals have engaged themselves in the rescue operation and searching the missing persons under the debris. SDRF along with other teams are conducting rescue operation here," said Heera, a local.

Five houses were damaged and livestock was washed away in Chhoribagar village in Uttarakhand after heavy monsoon rains poured throughout Saturday night and Gori river also overflowed.  

In a press statement,  Uttarakhand CMO said, "Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Rawat has instructed Pithoragarh District Magistrate that there should not be any laxity in relief & rescue work. He has also asked to provide relief amount to the affected people. 2 teams of SDRF are engaged in relief & rescue operations."

The Indian Meterological Department(IMD) on Sunday predicted fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Uttarakhand and other northern states during the next three days. (With ANI inputs)

"Three people have been killed and one house collapsed following the cloud burst. Eleven people are feared missing," officials said.  

"The entire route has been badly affected and people are facing trouble. Transport is badly hit," they added.

State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), State Disaster Management (SDM) and other teams have rushed to the spot to provide immediate help to the affected people.

Tanakpur-Tawaghat highway has been shut after debris fell on the path. Mobile networks and telecom services are also affected and rescue teams are also facing difficulties in carrying out the relief operation.  

Last week, a cloudburst and heavy rains wreaked havoc in Kansari village in the Kedarnath valley.

In 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on Uttarakhand caused devastating floods and landslides killing more than 1000 people. Flash flood came down upon the overflowing banks of the Chorabari lake destroying numerous houses and everything else that came its way. The incident left behind a huge trail of destruction.
