Uttar Pradesh IPS officer blows whistle on extortion

Blowing a whistle on the alleged extortion, UP IPS cadre Amitabh Thakur has drawn the attention of SP Hemant Kutiyal in the matter demanding strict action. Amitabh Thakur has accused police officers of Mughalsarai Kotwali police station of indulging in extortion worth Rs 35.64 lakh rupees.

Chandauli:An Uttar Pradesh IPS officer Amitabh Thakur has written to Supridentent of Police (SP) Hemant Kutiyal blowing the whistle on the alleged 'illegal extortion'. Amitabh Thakur has accused police officers of Mughalsarai Kotwali police station of indulging in illegal extortion worth Rs 35.64 lakh rupees. Thakur has appealed to SP to investigate the matter and take stern action in this regard.

On his personal twitter account, Thakur had jotted down a list of extortion in connection with mining and drug smuggling by the officers posted at Mughalsarai Kotwali police station.

Thakur wrote, "This is the list of illegal extortion and its related activities of Mughalsarai Kotwali police station officers. Illegal extortion worth Rs 35.64 lakh rupees have been collected per month. Apart from that, extortion of Rs 12,500 per vehicle in connection with illegal mining and arsenals have also been collected which included Rs 25 lakh from drug peddlers."

Sharing a list of the above items, Amitabh Thakur has demanded strict action in the matter. Hemant Kutiyal said that a similar list had gone viral on social media in 2017 which was investigated thoroughly. However, no conclusion was drawn.

He added, "Since this list is making rounds on the internet now, we will probe the matter once again and initiate strict action."

Earlier, this month, Uttar Pradesh police launched a 15-day campaign to identify criminals involved in illegal activities and acquiring properties through such means.
