US has no right to comment on India's internal sovereign matter: Former Envoy

Former ambassador Anil Trigunayat slammed US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) for their remarks on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). The US panel had criticised the passage of the bill from the lower of the Parliament and even suggested its administration to put sanctions on Home Minister Amit Shah and other leadership backing it.

New Delhi:Amid much international clamour on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which has been tabled in the upper house of the Parliament on Wednesday, former ambassador Anil Trigunayat came down heavily on the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) for their remarks on the bill.

Trigunayat condemned USCIRF for commenting on India's internal matter. The US panel criticised the passage of the contentious bill from the lower of the Parliament and even suggested its administration to put sanctions on Home Minister Amit Shah and other leadership backing it.

Speaking to ETV Bharat on this matters, the former envoy said, "In the first place, I have an objection to any government, non-government or semi-government entity in any other country, specially in the United States, which is supposedly a democracy, to comment on the internal sovereign matter of India."

Former Indian ambassador, who had also served in the United States, referred USCIRF comments as mischievous. He emphasised that many reports have put the United States as the number one violator of human rights. And, despite all, they have ignored all these reports.

Pointing out that these objections largely arise due to lack of information, Trigunayat said that India needs to put concerted and coherent projection of facts to the world.

When asked about Pakistan PM's remark on the bill, he asked to forget about Islamabad as India has diplomatically and politically isolated them.

He also said that now the world recognises Pakistan as a state which harbours terrorists.
