New Delhi: An Uruguayan diplomat was found flouting lockdown rules in the national capital. She further indulged in an argument with Delhi police personnel in Vasant Vihar as she was stopped for not following COVID-19 lockdown norms.

According to reports, the Uruguayan national named Ana Valentina Obispo refused to show her ID cards and argued with the cops, when they found her cycling without wearing gloves or masks.

The Delhi police claimed that she noted down the name of the officer who stopped her on her tracks and argued about not being aware of any such guidelines from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The incident came to light when Delhi police received complaint from the resident welfare association, in Vasant Vihar, of some diplomats/foreigners disregarding the restriction in place.

The Delhi police said that it will be writing to the MEA and to the Uruguay embassy regarding the defiance of the lockdown.

In the national capital, 1069 people have tested positive for coronavirus so far, including 19 deaths. In view to contain the spread of the virus, the Delhi government has been appealing to people to follow all precautionary measures and the wearing of masks has been made compulsory while stepping out.
