UP: Schoolgirl drops out of school after being molested

A class XI student dropped out of school after a man circulated morphed images of himself and the schoolgirl on social media platforms including WhatsApp and Facebook claiming that the two are in a relationship. The accused, identified as Ramesh, also allegedly molested the girl along with his friends while she was on her way to school every day.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): A school girl from Uttar Pradesh dropped out of school after being molested by a man.

The accused, identified as Ramesh, circulated morphed images of himself and the class XI student on social media platforms including WhatsApp and Facebook claiming that the two are in a relationship.

Ramesh also allegedly molested the girl along with his friends while she was on her way to school every day.

Exasperated by the harassment, the girl's father registered a complaint in the local police station against Ramesh and two other men.

The girl's father, a daily wage earner said, "I have a daughter and a man is after her, he has been disturbing her a lot. We have requested him several times not to follow her around and harass her. But, he doesn't listen to us and keeps threatening us with dire consequences. He also contacted my brother-in-law and threatened him."

Elaborating on the girl's condition, the father said, "she is not talking to anybody, doesn't go to school, and doesn't eat anything. She is very disturbed."

While the accused has been arrested by the police, two other co-accused are yet to be nabbed.

"The father had registered a case with us claiming that a person is circulating morphed pictures and videos of her daughter. Based on the complaint, the prime accused Ramesh has been arrested. We are on the lookout for the ones who helped the accused in the act, " said Superintendent of Police Brajesh Srivastav.

The SP added, "the accused will be punished strictly and the police are working on preventing any further cases of molestation or eve-teasing in the area."

This is not an isolated incident, Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing a spate in crime against women creating outrage among the public and members of civil society.
