Ujjain police hold press conference

The Ujjain Police held a press conference over the arrest of gangster Vikas Dubey. 

"We are in touch with UP police and will share all the information we have. The MP Police has done a good job in arresting him. If we would have been late he would have left Ujjain," said Ujjain SP Manoj Kumar Singh. 

The police said that Vikas Dubey's interrogation went on for 8 hrs after his arrest today morning.

"Today he reached Mahakal temple, where the security guard identified him. He purchased the VIP ticket priced Rs 250. On being asked for identification, he lied," said Singh.

He further added, "It was such a heinous matter that for investigation we first kept Vikas Dubey in custody. I then got a letter from SSP Kanpur that he is wanted & should be handed over to them. So we made proper documents & handed him over to UP Police for proper investigation."

Dubey's sister calls for severe punishment to guilty 

The Dubey's sister, Pushpa Nigam has breathed a sigh of relief after gangster's arrest. She said that whosoever is guilty in this should be punished severely, and innocent people should be left.

"If my husband is found guilty then he should also be given severe punishment, and if not then my husband and my son should be left safely," she said.

It is to be noted that Vikas Dubey’s brother-in-law Gyanendra Nigam (46), and his son were picked by the special task force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police with assistance from Madhya Pradesh cops from Shahdol on June 8.

BSP supremo Mayawati asked Uttar Pradesh government to take strict action against not only gangster Vikas Dubey but also against his patrons in the government and politics.  

The people of UP and the country are waiting for the government to expose all the criminal nexus and 'mafiyagiri' of Vikas Dubey, "the dreaded criminal following his arrest after a long struggle by the Madhya Pradesh police", said Mayawati in a tweet.

"The public is also waiting for the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure strict punishment at the earliest to all the government and political patrons and conspirators connected with Vikas Dubey in his heinous crimes," she said in another tweet.

It was 'well-planned surrender', Vikas Dubey was 'saved from death: Kin of slain DSP

A relative of DSP Devendra Mishra, who was among the eight killed in the Kanpur ambush, questioned the arrest of gangster Vikas Dubey, claiming it was a "well-planned surrender" and the gangster was "saved from death".

He was apparently referring to the deaths of Dubey's five alleged accomplices in encounters with the police.      

"This is not an arrest but he has been saved from 'death'. It was a surrender made in a well-planned manner," Kamalkant Mishra, the brother-in-law of Devender Mishra told reporters.  

"Nobody can compensate for the loss that we are facing but if the criminal has been arrested, it is a source of satisfaction for us," he said, adding, "I do not think that it is the end of the story rather, it is just the beginning".

Gangster Vikas Dubey's mother Sarla Devi said that her son is with the Samajwadi Party (SP), a claim denied by the party.  

"At this time, he is not in the BJP, he is with the SP," she had told reporters.

Kanpur Ambush LIVE: UP police take gangster Vikas Dubey in custody, leave for Kanpur

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Police have arrested notorious history-sheeter Vikas Dubey in Ujjain on Thursday morning, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra confirmed. 

Gangster Vikas Dubey was on a run for days after an encounter broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur in which eight policemen were killed. 

With more than 60 criminal cases registered against him, Vikas Dubey is a history-sheeter, a resident of Bikru village. Wanted in several high profile murder, robbery and kidnapping cases, the gangster Vikas Dubey also has an alleged role in the killing of BJP leader Santosh Shukla in Shivli police station in 2001. 

However, he was acquitted by a session court due to lack of evidence.

Dubey's criminal record began in 1993 after he formed a gang with scores of youngsters and accumulated charges of attempted murder, abduction, extortion. Having a strong political link, the criminal also kept a private army and he was the most sort out person in rigging the elections. 

He was even elected as the 'President' of Nagar Panchayat polls when he was lodged in jail.

A founder member of District Panchayat, Dubey was also accused of killing a business tycoon Dinesh Dubey and murder of an assistant manager of Tarachand Intercollege.

 Vikas Dubey was said to be a close associate of HariKishan Srivastava, who was an MLA from Janata Dal and later Dubey allegedly killed Srivastava's rival Santosh Shukla. During the regime of Mayawati in 2002, Dubey reportedly made an easy escape in Bilhaurm Shivrajpur, Chaubepur, Rania areas of Kanpur and even hoarded properties using illegal means.
