Srinagar:Three terrorists have been killed in an encounter at Sagun area in South Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Wednesday morning.
Two terrorists were killed early morning. Later one more terrorist was killed taking the toll to three.
The encounter started between terrorists and security forces on Tuesday evening.
The firefight took place after security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.
The police made announcements to the holed up terrorists to surrender but they refused to do that.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.

Earlier on October 6, security forces gunned down one terrorist in retaliatory fire after he opened fire on a personal security officer (PSO) of a BJP worker in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district. The BJP worker identified as Gulam Qadir Rather, a resident of Nunar Ganderbal, is safe.
Earlier, on September 27, two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. Based on specific information received, security forces had launched a cordon and search operation there.
Similarly, on September 25, two militants were killed during the gunfight that started on Thursday evening following a cordon and search operation carried out by security forces in Sirhama village of Anantnag district.
