Two CRPF officers commit suicide in Kashmir

In two separate incidents from the past two days, two Central Reserve Police Force jawans committed suicide by shooting themselves with their service rifles. While one of the officers committed suicide over the fears of COVID-19, the cause of the other one is yet to be known.

Srinagar (JK): Two Central Reserve Police Force personnel have committed suicide in Kashmir in two days, raising concern among the paramilitary forces deployed in the Valley.

CRPF spokesman in Srinagar, Pankaj Singh told ETV Bharat that an Assistant Sub Inspector of the 49 Battalion, Bengali Babu posted in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar shot himself dead with his service rifle Tuesday morning. Babu is the resident of Gwalior city in Madhya Pradesh.

He said that on Monday evening, a sub inspector, Fateh Singh, of 96 Battalion posted in Mattan area of southern Kashmir's Anantnag district shot himself dead. Singh is from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.

He was rushed to a hospital but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Before committing suicide, Singh has reportedly left behind a note, fearing that he might be infected with COVID-19.

The spokesman said that both the incidents are being investigated and the autopsy reports of their bodies are awaited.

A police official said that his sample has been taken for report and they have followed COVID-19 protocols in dealing with the body of Singh for autopsy.
