"18 people, including two pilots, have lost their lives in the Kozhikode mishap, it is unfortunate. 127 people are at hospitals, others have been released," said Hardeep Singh Puri, Civil Aviation Minister.

2. Before crash-landing, AI pilot aborted two landings due to tailwind

The Air India Express flight- IX-1344, B737 attempted two landings before the final landing at the tabletop runway. According to a senior investigator from DGCA, the approach was for runway 28 but as pilots found difficulties they went around twice and came from the opposite side on runway 10 and the plane crash-landed at about 7:41 pm.

3. Pilot of crashed AI Express flight earlier flew MiG-21s in IAF

Captain Deepak V. Sathe, who was among those killed when the Air India Express plane skidded off the runway in Kerala, was a former Indian Air Force officer and had also served as an instructor at the Air Force Training Academy. He had taken premature retirement from the IAF, shifted to civilian flying and joined Air India.
