Tobacco contraband seized in Rajasthan, one held

Rajasthan police busted tobacco contraband racket and arrested one person. Huge quantity of gutka and pan masala have been seized and investigation has been initiated.

Kota: Rajasthan Special Operation Group (SOG) and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) raided the office of a gutka and pan masala making unit on Monday and seized fake tobacco contraband worth lakhs of rupees. One person has been booked for questioning and few more persons will be interrogated later on.

The team carried out the raid in Shiv Sagar area under Udyog Nagar Police station limits acting on a tip-off. The searches were conducted based on credible information and during the raids and big plastic bags containing fake gutka and pan masala were seized by the cops.

Rajasthan police were also informed about the seizure following which the police team reached the spot. Various brands of gutka and pan masala were found in the unit.

"Based on tip-offs, SOG and ATS teams conducted raids on the premises of the manufacturing units. It was found that tobacco contraband was processed with machines. Kota Police has been informed and an investigation has been initiated," said Additional SP Praveen Jain.

He added, "We have detained one person for questioning. Few more persons will also be questioned. Huge quantity of tobacco has been seized and we are probing the matter."

He further said that two vehicles used for transporting gutka had also been seized by the team adding that the accused will be produced before the court.
