New Delhi:The Trinamool Congress on Monday wrote a letter to the Election Commission, demanding cancellation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nomination for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

In the letter, TMC wrote that the Modi's 'horse-trading' comment at a rally was a violation of the poll code. "We are shocked and surprised to hear the utterances of Shri Narendra Modi, as saying that 40 TMC MLAs are in touch with him and will cross over to the BJP."

"This is very unbecoming of the Prime Minister. He is trying to influence voters to vote for BJP creating a mala fide impression in their minds that many TMC MLAs are in touch with him. We lodge a strong protest against the mischevious campaign of Modi," it added

The party further added, "You are thus requested to ask PM Narendra Modi for evidence in support of his statement, failing which his nomination should be cancelled for violation of the Model Code of Conduct by making such provocative and undemocratic statements."

Modi while addressing an election rally at Sreerampur in Hoogly district on Monday said that 40 TMC MLAs were in touch with him and will desert their party once BJP wins the general elections.

"Political ground has slipped from under your feet," Modi said at the targeting the TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
