Solapur (Maharashtra): At a time when there are examples aplenty of mistreatment of dead bodies of Covid-19 patients by the hospital or municipal staff, a woman and her team have volunteered to assist Maharashtra's Solapur Municipality in disposing of the bodies.
Kavita Chavan, a young woman from the Tiger Groups, a Maharashtra-based civil society organisation, took up the otherwise unappealing job in response to the calls of Solapur Municipal Commissioner P. Shivshankar, who appealed to the general public to help the state during the coronavirus-induced crisis.
Accompanied by seven of her colleagues - Tanaji Jadhav, Shrimant Chavan, Ketan Devi, Madhukar Kurapati, Pralhad Kalaskar, Sagar Rathod and Avi Pawar - Chavan receives dead bodies of Covid-19 patients from the local municipality staff in an ambulance and then performs their last rites as per the deceased person's religious belief.
