Telangana: Woman falls unconscious while standing in queue to collect COVID-19 cash relief

In a video shot by one of the onlookers, a middle-aged woman fell unconscious while standing in a queue at a post office to collect Rs. 1,500 promised by the Telangana government to the needy amid lockdown. Before falling unconscious, onlookers said that the woman had started eating sand from the roadside out of sheer hunger and thirst.

Rangareddy (Telangana):A middle-aged woman fell unconscious on the roadside on Monday in Vanasthalipuram area of Telangana’s Rangareddy district while she was standing in a queue at a post office to collect Rs. 1,500 promised by the state government to the needy to purchase essential commodities amid COVID-19 -induced lockdown.

In a video shot by one of the onlookers, the woman is seen being attended by several people standing in the queue along with her, who try to comfort her as she lies unconscious.

Before falling unconscious, onlookers said that the woman had started eating sand from the roadside out of sheer hunger and thirst.

Ever since the K Chandrashekhar Rao government announced the cash assistance of Rs. 1,500 to ration card holders, long queues are commonplace at post offices across the state.

People often start queuing up at the post office from 5 am every day.
