Tamil Nadu:At a time when several thousands of India’s poor are going hungry following a 21-day nationwide lockdown imposed in the country to check the spread of coronavirus disease, a humble grocery store in Tamil Nadu is offering free food to those in need and setting an example for others.
TN grocery store sets up stall offering free bread amid lockdown Located at Koorainadu area of Mayiladuthurai district, the owner of RR Cake has set up a stall with packets of bread in front of the shop which has been closed since the lockdown was imposed.
Keeping in mind the need to maintain “social distancing”, the stall remains unmanned and anyone in need can simply go and pick up as many packets of bread as they wish.

Although the stall offers bread free of cost, it also has the provision of making a nominal payment of Rs. 30 for anyone who wishes to pay for the food.
“People are taking what they need and they are leaving and some of them are even leaving money in the box. Few of them, however, took bread packets without leaving the money. But, it doesn't matter to us, as we feel that everyone needs to be fed” said the owner of the shop Jaganathan.
The stall, which is open around the clock, is providing respite to several out-of-work migrant workers and destitute.
