Bitten by quarantined youth, nonagenarian dies in TN

A 90-year-old woman, identified as Nachiyammal, died on Saturday morning after she was bitten by a home-quarantined youth, in Bodinayakanur town of Tamil Nadu's Theni district. On Friday evening, the woman was sleeping in front of her house when the stark naked youth pounded on her and bit her at the neck.

Theni:In a bizzare incident, a nonagenarian died after being bitten by a home-quarantined youth, in Bodinayakanur town of Tamil Nadu's Theni district. Soon after the incident, she was admitted to a government hospital where she breathed her last during wee hours of Saturday morning.

On Friday evening, the woman identified as Nachiyammal (90) resident of Bakthaseva Street in Jakkammanayakanpatti village, was sleeping in front of her house when the stark naked youth pounded on her and bit her at the neck.

Just as she cried out in agony, the neighbours rescued her from the violent youth. They rushed her to the government hospital at Bodi and was admitted to the Theni government hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the youth who was roaming around the village causing ruckus was overpowered and pinned down by the local residents. They had tied him up and handed him over to the police.

Police later identified the youth as a local resident who had a textiles business in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, a senior police official said, "The youth had returned to his native following the outbreak of COVID-19 about a fortnight. District health department officials who came to know of his travel history placed him under home-quarantine. He left the home on Friday evening and was caught after he bit the elderly woman."

Preliminary investigations reveal that the youth was depressed over isolation. "He stripped his clothes and fled from his quarantined house. We are trying to find out whether he had any dependency related issues," said another official privy to the investigation.
