Taluk administration solves problem between Dalits and Upper Castes over deity

The villagers of Honnauru fined two Dalits from their village after they asked to take out a procession of Goddess Chamundeshwari on streets where Dalits reside. The two Dalits pleaded with the tehsildar which led to the taluk administration solving the problem by conducting a meeting between the two parties.

Chamarajanagara: The village of Honnuru celebrates Dasara in a grand manner. The procession of the goddess Chamundeshwari Devi was held only on the streets of upper caste houses every year on Vijaya Dashami(10th Day of Navaratri). In order to take the village Deity in the streets of the scheduled caste populace, villagers Ningaraju and Shankar Murthy along others were pleaded to Tehsildar, in a meeting before of Dasara Celebration.

After noticing the plea made by Ningaraju and Shankarappa, Devendra Nayaka, the village accountant informed the village leaders about the matter. The upper caste villagers arranged a meeting immediately and fined the two Dalits.

The villagers of Honnuru fined Ningaraju Rs 50,101 and Shankarmurthy Rs.10,101 on Thursday. Ningraju paid the fine by pledging his gold ornaments after being tortured by the villagers.

Ningaraju shared his problem with the Yalandaru Tehsildar and told him about the fine. Last Monday, Yalandur Tehsildar B.K. Sudarshan held a meeting with village leaders, complainants and leaders of farmers' association to discuss the fines. After the meeting, he managed to solve the problem of the villagers and requested them to maintain peace.

After the meeting, the village elders refunded the fines imposed on Ningaraju and Shankar Murthy. Based on this decision Ningraju withdrew his complaint. Therefore the problem was solved in an amicable manner.
