New Delhi:After four states passed resolution against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), political and strategic affairs expert Subimal Bhattacharjee on Thursday said that taking resolution is nothing but "only misleading the people."
"This is a misleading step. A constitutionally elected government in the state, who swear by the constitution, they know it very well that in the list of subject, citizenship is a central government list I subject...they don't have any locus standi on the whole matter," said Bhattacharya.
"It's an Act of Parliament. It's a law of the land. Before enacting into an Act, a discussion took place with different stakeholders," said Bhattacharya.
States like Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal has passed a resolution against CAA.
Such resolution was, however, first moved by the CPI(M)-led Kerala government, which was vehemently criticised by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal Government had also passed a resolution against CAA in its Assembly.
