Deoghar:After Jharkhand's Jamtara, Deoghar is now coming up as a hideout by cybercriminals with an increasing number of cyber fraud calls originating from there. As the city becomes home to criminals duping people via calls, the state police have sprung up in action to crackdown on its growth. However, the feat isn't easy as the state is already marred by Maoists, unemployment and other petty crimes.
To know more about it in detail, ETV Bharat editor Nishant Sharma held a special conversation with Deoghar Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashwini Kumar Sinha who played an important role in the Pathalgadi case, has been awarded the Bravery Award. Apart from cybercrime, he has also done a great job in ending the drug trade and destroying the network of Naxalites.
Ashwini Kumar Sinha is a 2010 batch Indian Administrative Service officer and has worked as a subdivision police officer of Khunti from 2010 to 2013. On 8 December 2016, Ashwini Kumar Sinha took charge as Superintendent of Police of Khunti.
After this, on 22 November 2018, he was made SP of Gumla district. On September 12, 2020, Ashwini Kumar Sinha, who had been working as SP Special Branch Ranchi, was made SP of Deoghar.

What types of crime are a big challenge in Jharkhand
SP Ashwini Kumar Sinha said that insurgency is a big problem in Jharkhand. Criminal incidents of splinter groups like People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), Jharkhand Janmukti Parishad (JJMP) and Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) also occur. Besides that loot, robbery, theft and now cybercrime has also started. However, cybercrime is a big challenge for Jharkhand and remains so for the state Police as well.
Deoghar - New haven of cybercriminals
Jamtara has been infamous for its Cybercrime connection and since Deoghar district is adjacent to Jamtara, it's is also catching up with the reputation. But now, the number of cybercrime calls originating from here have started swelling, posing a big challenge to the police. To tackle the problem, on the initiative of DGP MV Rao, a special operation is being carried out against the Cybercriminals.
Those involved in cybercrime activities will have to bear the brunt and will be sent to jail. Strict action would be taken against them. The police under the initiative have already started seizing mobiles, cash and vehicles.
Families involved in cheating together
The police have uncovered that the people who have come back home due to the lockdown and whose family members were already involved in scamming the people, they have also joined them. Families get together in cheating the people.
No evidence has been found regarding the involvement of people from other states.
