"We are in a Parliamentary democracy, we have been voted for Parliament but we are not being able to attend Parliament. Even, Parliamentary committee meeting is not taking place. We can only raise the issues of this country if the Government calls a Parliament session, which is not happening," said a Congress MP on the condition of anonymity.

Recently, Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Jairam Ramesh who heads the Science and Technology, Environment and Forests parliamentary committee, also wrote a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, with the same request, saying, "I am doubtful if we can muster up a quorum. But every member irrespective of party affiliation has asked for virtual sitting. Surely, this can be arranged. Many countries have held even full Parliament sessions in a virtual model. I hope you will allow it."

Amid the border tensions, escalated between India and China due to the violent face-off at Galwan Valley and the reported incursions of Chinese troops into the Indian territory, Congress had repeatedly demanded the Government to call a Parliament session to discuss it's the strategy to handle the situation.

Congress has also been slamming the Central Government for "poor" management of Covid-19 pandemic and the economic repercussions of the nationwide lockdown, which was being announced to contain the spread of the deadly virus. The opposition party had made repeated demands from the Government to grant financial relief to the poor by giving Direct Cash Transfer of Rs 7,500 to the accounts of people belonging to deprived sections.

The party also held a nationwide demonstration against the Center's decision to increase excise duty to petrol and diesel prices even during the slack in global crude oil prices.
