1 lakh Haryana soldiers to cast vote 'digitally'

1 lakh Haryana soldiers deployed outside the state will be able to cast their votes through a digital service put in place by the Election Commission of India.

Chandigarh: In a bid to make every vote count, Election Commission of India has decided to facilitate digital voting system for soldiers placed outside the state. Over 1 lakh soldiers are working in borders area and other parts of India.


ECI has created an electronic transmitted postal ballot system through which soldiers will be able to cast their votes through a unique ID and QR code.

A paper ballot will be sent to the commanding officer of soldiers in a digital format by Election officer of the concerned constituency of the soldiers. An OTP will be sent on soldier's mobile with the help of which they will be able to cast their votes.

This service has been started for the first time in the country for Loksabha elections.
