Ambala: Hours after a 21-year-old woman, Nikita Tomar, was shot in broad daylight outside her college in Faridabad, Haryana Home Minister Anl Vij has alleged that the accused is a relative of Congress. Vij has instructed that a Special Investigative Team (SIT) will be formed to ensure a quick probe into the case.

"The matter will be investigated from 2018 (when the victim was initially kidnapped) and 'love jihad' angle will also be probed. It was under pressure from Congress leaders that girl's parents were forced to take back case registered against accused in 2018."

Nikita's family has alleged that Tausif had been mounting pressure on her to marry him and had kidnapped her two years ago. According to the police, an FIR was registered against the accused but was cancelled as the victim's father told that he did not want any further investigation.

Asserting that such crimes won't be tolerated by the Haryana government, the BJP leader went on to add, "We will neither allow such hooliganism to propel in the state nor will tolerate such attitude towards our daughters. The family was pressurised to take back the complaint but now SIT will investigate the matter."

She was taken to a hospital, but succumbed to injuries, the ACP said. The father of the deceased told that earlier too those youths had harassed the girl. He had lodged the report at the police station but no action was taken and finally, the accused took his daughter's life.

The B.Com final year student was kidnapped by the accused in 2018 but the family was pressurized and a compromise had been reached. He said during the preliminary investigation, it has emerged that one of the accused, identified as Tauseef was known to her.
